Webdepart.net is a news portal / RSS aggregator with a powerful Launchpad, which can be set as a default page in a browser.
Webdepart.net is a multilingual news portal reading RSS feeds from different sources that can be added by the user. The RSS news are divided on sections by languages and categories. The site also has a tagcloud that is automatically taken from the news loaded. It helps the users to monitor the news and articles, showing the mostly popular keywords at the moment.
The registered users can add the news articles to their favorites lists, "flash" the articles (rate them as interesting) and have their own so-called "Launchpad", that can be set as the browser's homepage and contains links and RSS boxes. Users can add their own links to the sites or resources and categorize them. The links can also be imported from their Del.icio.us account, this function makes filling the Launchpad fast and easy. The 10 mostly clicked links, imported from Del.icio.us, are also displayed by categories.
Users can request new RSS sources to be added to the system, and they appear after they are approved by admin. The RSS sources list is available for all visitors; also they are sorted so it can be seen which are the most popular. The script works with the following feed formats: RSS 0.91, RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, ATOM 0.3
The portal has a lot of features: each user can have a friends list, can see personal statistics, can subscribe to news.
The project is developed using easy-to-edit .html-based template system and CSS sheets - the whole interface can be changed in minutes.
Admin section:
The admin section is top comfortable and has plenty of functions. Besides managing users, RSS sources and news articles, the administrator can also add and manage unlimited number of supplementary text pages such as "Terms of Services", see different portal usage statistics, etc.
